Well it was a few degrees cooler and several drops wetter than predicted by Environment Canada, and perhaps it was the favourable weather forecast that drew 16 women out to ride tonight. The conditions were really quite good for those who kept warm enough, and four people improved upon their previous database best 15km. The most significant improvement, at almost 11% was that of Cadet rider Gabrielle St-Germaine, followed by Veronik Bourgon who broke the 24 minute mark by a long shot with her 6% improvement. Lili Caron is making her way to the 25km/h average speed limit, where she is to buy herself a racing bike, and Claude Dréano, the first place woman tonight, posted another small improvement to her excellent times. You may click here to see a graph of these women's 15km results since their first attempt. As well, 7 out of the 14 who have ridden an earlier 2010 WTT 15km improved upon their previous 2010 WTT best 15km, though Kari has ridden even faster in an open time trial this season. You can see a graph of these women's 2010 WTT results here. Jane Morris was happy that the new aero bars delivered. Of the most un-improved of the night, I (Celia) was just keen to have made it there after finding virtually no air pressure in my back tire upon leaving work (a valve problem)! I rushed home and grabbed my touring Marinoni, complete with hot pink rear rack, but, alas, missing the flowers and lighting system. Just as well, it was a better night to go home for a hot, mud-removing shower than out for an extended post race dinner and ride! By the way, if you're curious, you may see who rode in any of the recorded rainy WTT events, dating back to 1989, by clicking here - quite a large number of us. Hey, even two women, Louise McLaren and myself, ventured out for the one-and-only New Years Day Time Trial in 2005. Lots of fun, that was, and that's what we're here for, isn't it?
These results were first posted on the OBC site circa 22:45 on 2010-Jun-22 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Note that I'd gladly type in the results each time, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. Regardless, I will continue to donate this statistical time trial result service to you, even though doing so has, surprisingly, resulted in my EXPULSION from the OBC ! I guess I must at least thank the OBC executive for taking on the grunt work and leaving me to do just the more interesting side of my result service, but I do want to make it absolutely clear that I would gladly help the OBC Board input the results, lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface! The choice is theirs. If they want the help, I'm here and will do it - even if I remain expelled! Such is my level of dedication to public service and disinterest in private politics.)
